The History of Essential Oils
Essential oils are organic compounds extracted from the bark, flower, fruit, leaf, seed, or root of a plant or tree. They have a wide range of uses from green cleaning, to food, and natural health solutions.
Essential oils have been used throughout history in many cultures and have been documented for their therapeutic benefits. Historical documentation includes Egyptian hieroglyphics, Chinese manuscripts, and even the Bible. The Egyptians used essential oils for therapeutic purposes and in the burial of rulers and pharaohs. When King Tut’s tomb was opened, over 350 liters of essential oils were found in alabaster jars! Specific recipes for anointing oils are listed in the Bible, Frankincense and Myrrh were brought to Jesus as the most precious gifts of the times. There are 188 references to essential oils in the Bible!
The unique chemical structure of an essential oil allows them to pass through the skin for immediate systemic response. They are fragrant, can lift a mood, calm the senses, and elicit powerful emotional responses.
Pure therapeutic grade essential oils are providing researched, validated, natural solutions. Hospitals across the country are using them. Pharmacies across the country are offering them. WHY DOES QUALITY MATTER?
-They are effective:
*Work with the body to address issues and root causes on a cellular level, and can even cross the blood-brain barrier.
*Contain hundreds of different compounds which provide complex and versatile ability to combat threats without building up resistance.
-They are safe:
*Plants are harvested in their natural habitat. Terrain and soil of origin are important. Sourcing and harvesting a plant from it’s natural habitat ensures the best possible quality essential oils nature can provide.
ensure powerful benefits without harmful side-effects.
*If a field is sprayed with toxic chemicals, or these chemicals are added to the soil, it affects the chemistry of the plants and is passed on to the consumer.
Regulation of essential oils is limited and standards are minimal. Many claim to be pure and therapeutic but few are subject to the rigorous testing standards for chemical composition. Searching the world for the highest quality essential oils, expertly sourcing, and a carefully controlled extraction process produce oils that are beyond organic, verified pure, and free of fillers, pesticides, & foreign contaminants.
This is why I only use DoTERRA Oils.
Essential oils are fat-soluable. When they are applied to the skin, they are absorbed and enter the bloodstream quickly. This is one of the many reasons quality of oils is so important! Appropriate dosaging is different for every individual and should be tailored to their age, size, overall health, and sensitivities. Avoid areas such as eyes, inner ears, and nose.
Topical dilution chart
Reflexology is the application of pressure to specific areas of the feet based on a system of zones and reflex areas that reflect an image of the body. Nerves in the feet correspond with various parts of the body; the entire body is mapped on the feet, telling a story of emotional and physical well being. To address a specific body system, find the reflexology points, apply the essential oil, and massage it in.
